Polyetherimide (PEI) Ultem 9085 is an amorphous, high-performance thermoplastic with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 186 °C. This material is characterized by outstanding mechanical properties, flame retardancy (UL 94-VO) and an excellent strength-to-weight ratio.
The PEI filament has unique properties as it does not come into contact with water during the production process and is packaged directly in vacuum packaging. These properties make the PrimaCreator PEI filament particularly suitable for use in FDM and FFF 3D printers. The material has excellent adhesion between the layers, which leads to a great improvement in impact resistance, strength, durability and the printing process.
There are a few things to consider for successful PEI printing. The printer must have the power for the PEI filament and it should be printed with a nozzle temperature of 355-390°C. The heating bed should be set to 120-160°C and a heated chamber is important. It is also very important that the printer is located in a room where there are hardly any draughts and temperature fluctuations.
